Hello, STO Community! My name is Alenis Kendra and I am one of the newer members of the STO universe.
While populating a ground map in the Foundry recently, I realized that my population was lacking any children. Seeing I was attempting to create the feel of a poverty-stricken refugee camp, I felt that a few scurrying urchins would add a level of authenticity.
Thanks to some very helpful tips from the Foundry Chat regulars, I was able to create a reasonable facsimile of Cardassian children as custom costumes. I’d like to share what I learned with you all, in the hopes that it might help some other newbie along the way.
First, in order to create a prepubescent character, you want to start with a male alien template.
(This is true, even if you want your NPC to be a little girl. If you choose a female template, your child will have unnaturally large breasts, even at the smallest bust settings.) Your character template MUST be set to alien, as this is the only one which will allow you to make your character short. Don’t worry, you can still make your alien character look human, if you want to.
Next, move all the limb, feet, hands, torso, and joint sliders to the lowest end. If you want your juvenile to be chubby, you can add a little bulk, but don’t overdo it. To add a more cherubic look, be sure to make the face round, the lips at their fullest, the eyes wide and large, and the jawbone small. The great thing about the alien template is that you can literally create the younger members of any alien race! Just add the needed features that are specific to the desired race.
Here’s an example of an adult versus a child:
If you are creating a girl, add longer hair and a dressier top.
If you are making a boy, make the mouth wider and the nose a bit bigger. And, tada! You have a kiddo for your newest mission!
Thank you for reading! This is my first post, so I hope that it is clear and useful.
