This is a quick video tutorial I made to showcase the Holodeck objects that will be coming to the Foundry in the next few weeks. Use this technique to create a nice holodeck transition effect without the need for separate maps!
Absolutely draw-dropping and Epic! The effect looks flawless. Great work Mapolis.
Dang. Beat me to a DevWatch.
My work here is done!
Mapolis posted it himself, lol.
::sounds the trumpets for Mapolis::
WOOT WOOOOT! Way to go, Mapolis! Soon there won’t be anything we can’t do! WOOOO!
This is so sexual it’s wrong!
I hope that I understand.
The first holodeck is a solid object, like a box. The second holodeck is an effect and not a solid object, so you needed invis walls to trap the player.
Both the fade in and fade out effects happen quickly, and they are only transitional, meaning that the fade in does not stay permanent.
So, while we can spawn inside a box, we can’t have a box spawn on top of the player?
Is that right?
Looks that way. Still pretty cool, though. I wonder how long that transition lasts? Maybe the duration can be set. Guess we won’t know til we get our hands on it.
I was just looking for a way to convince players they’re in a Holodeck. Nicely done!
Looks great. The transitions work great. Problem is, half the time my character starts out on top of the holodeck.
