Im currently in peace treaty negotiations with Nagus, mainly because I love his new concept. And Hav, calling it just short of crack cocaine is rather harsh.

Heres the thread at the STO Free player forums:

http://startrek-online.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=438

In case you dont bother reading that, I proposed an additional concept to add to Nagus' daily theme. When I start rolling out Foundry missions, Im going to make mine more weekly in nature like a FE, but mine will revolve around one character you get use to interacting with, as sort of a Guest Star episode in your career.

Heres the idea I pitched to Nagus, as something I thought he may consider doing:

"For instance, I'll throw you this bone to consider, because Im not going to use it. If I were YOU, Id write about this Ferengi trader thats always getting into trouble and always needing his Federation friend to come bail him out of one predicament after the other. See where Im going? The players establish a relationship with the same character that they can keep coming back to in their careers. If enough Foundry authors take this type of approach, between your dailies, and Foundry authors FE of their own that renew each week or so, we can create more daily content to keep the game fresher."

Perhaps its time for Foundry authors to step up our game a bit. Instead of being one off great missions, lets try to create our own recurring characters that are apart of the STO universe for players to interact with and befriend. Its hard to write a mission with any sort of knowledge of what the player captain and his crew are like. But, if you know how your character interacted with the player's characters all the times before, its easier to build a relationship with your character and that crew that you cant see, because you know how YOUR character has acted and how they have interacted with that crew in the past eps. Did I say that straight, lol? What Im trying to say is, when the foundry writers have at least half the control of the relationship, its easier to write to that, even though you have no idea what the player playing your mission is like and their captain and their crew. If authors become successful with this, players will start to enjoy getting their weekly fix of Harry Mudd (for instance) episodes to see what sort of thing Harry is up to now and how he needs your help once again.

Its about creating relationships, of the type that Q had with Picard. THATS whats missing in the STO FE content IMO. You dont get a chance to build any sort of lasting relationship with certain characters. Im going to work on making my FE foundry mission(s) in the Nagus theme before I finally get around to working on my one off eps or story arcs.

Well, I think the maintenance is finally done. I just resubbed last night. Time to pull the USS Bull Halsey out of mouthballs and round up his crew for another run (that hopefully lasts longer than 5 months like our first run, assuming Cryptic can keep me paying $15/mo longer this time)

Pingback from alimac30:
Huge, huge thanks to Havraha, NemesisChiken and Terilynn for featuring it on their show, and for the debate they got into surrounding the big ethical issue in the mission. I can’t express how much it meant to me to hear the debate played out so passionately, to know that people had taken the story and the characters as seriously as I did…

Great episode. Love the idea for the UGC daily event!

Played some of those Nagus Dailies and they were okay. Its something I wish Cryptic would have came out with, more standard dailies like these, but my only complaints is that I wish there was just a little more story to some of them.

Trackback from Holosuite Magazine:
"Another sweet show from Podcast UGC is out for your podcasting enjoyment. Keep up to date with Havraha, Teri and Nem as they weep over Alexist not being able to attend for another several show due to Real Life. They also talk shop over the new UGC events, the Nagus Dailies and about the upcoming holidays."
