I wanted to give special thanks to the contributors here at StarbaseUGC for the many tutorials and videos that helped me see some of the unique game mechanic opportunities for building optional character paths in a story. Special thanks to kirkfat for his extensive video tutorials!

I opened my Starbase UGC account last year while two-thirds of the way through my epic six-part Federation mission series Ghosts of War, intent upon blogging about the series as I continued to write it. That was nine months ago. Alas, I was too busy in the Foundry, in STO and in RL to devote much time to blogging about my series. Well, now that I’ve completed the series, I figured it was high time I started promoting and discussing it. So… here I am.

I wrote the six missions in this series over the past eighteen months or so, with frequent updates and improvements to each one along the way. I will give you more of a behind-the-scenes look at what went into making this series in the weeks and months ahead. For now though, I’ll start with just the basic facts on each mission in the series:

Title: Passed Life

Project ID: ST-HRXRYSAFK

Author: james1jesushippy

Language: English

Faction: Federation

Level: Any

Starting point: ESD, northwest console in the central hub.

Mission Description:

Admiral Skeshk’la needs your help. Her old ship, the USS Redemption, is going to the mothball fleet, but something is off about the ship. No one is who they seem to be and the truth isn’t worth half what it used to be. Old enemies will become your only friends and old friends won’t even acknowledge your existence.

Author notes: This is the third and concluding mission in a story arc. The first two missions I am not particularly proud of, but I didn’t want to take them down because I wanted people to be able to follow the story. Those two missions are, “Young Devils and Dark Secrets” and “The Wedding”. It is possible to play this mission without playing the other two, however I set up the second mission “The Wedding” so that people could play it without playing the first. If you want to get a better idea of the back-story, you can play The Wedding and then this mission.

Please note that this mission is intended for solo play.

For Every Action:Part III has been published, finishing off this Fed trilogy.
It is up to you to save an entire race from disaster, as a deadly virus spreads across the homeworld of one of the Federation’s founding members.

For Every Action:Part I – Any Level
For Every Action:Part II & III – Level 31+

This is a Solo RP mission. Each episode is no more than 40 minutes.

You are tasked with a search and rescue of a Tellarite freighter gone missing, but
the truth you uncover is a secret that great powers would rather you didn’t find.

Level: Any
Note: Best played solo, and more fun with an EVA suit, but not a requirement.

Endeavour

Space the final frontier, these are the voyages of the Star Ship Endeavour. Her continuous mission to explore strange new worlds to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

It has been over 8 years since we have had a new Star Trek series. 8 years since we have had any new stories from the prime universe. Yes we have had the newest Star Trek movie that came out in 2009, and yes we have STO set in the prime universe, but since the end of Enterprise we really have had no new characters to get to know. We have had no new adventures to see a Star Ship Captain embark on. That has all changed, with the new series I call Star Trek Endeavour.

It is set 8 years prior to the events in Star Trek Online. The series picks up with the continuing story of Bajor, and as such has some of the themes from DS9. The series is centered around Captain Ro Aerrow, son of Ro Laren. He was left on Bajor when he was born shortly before Ro Laren left to join Starfleet.

Nagorak's ship scaling NPC data for STO Foundry authors

STO Foundry author Nagorak weighs in with his research about ship scaling for NPCs (non-player characters).

Using the STO Foundry, “I managed to determine the ship scaling for the Foundry ship groups up to five (5) players*. What I’ve discovered is that the NPC actors always remain the same type of ship, but which ships spawn varies depending on the number of players (and it’s not as simple as spawning in order of the actor list).”

“There is also some variation in hull strength (and maybe damage output) of the ships to further balance the groups. So, for example, one battleship may have more hull than another in that group or a different group. That difference in strength explains why there are some identical spawns with different actors. (For example, with the battleship group, you get a battleship and dreadnought both with 4 and 5 players, but the 5 player spawns are stronger.)”

“I believe the information is accurate, but I had to record a lot of different groups, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that I made a mistake. If there is a mistake, then it will only be in the exact mix of ships at each player amount. The exact type of ship each actor is (which is the most important info) should be correct.”

Forget Me Not
By Sovereign77x

Mission ID: ST-HFMIG9X2P
Length: 30 to 60 minutes (determined by your choices)
Faction: Federation
Level Requirement: 16+

Synopsis:

A supply convoy has gone missing while under the protection of your former protégé and close friend, Commander Samantha Taryn. In a time when so much is sacrificed, and so many lives are lost, you will go to extraordinary lengths to bring this one Starfleet officer home.

Author’s Notes:

My primary purpose with this mission is to offer radically different game play experiences to players based upon their decisions. If you are looking for a solid combat experience, you’ll find it here; however, if you are looking for a mission that is dialogue and puzzle driven–one that you can complete without firing a shot–then you’ll find it here also.  At one point in the mission, you will have the option to complete your objectives using stealth, rather than force.  Players can customize their stealth experience by choosing whether they want to play in normal or expert mode.  I’ve also employed some unique storytelling to create a more personal connection between the player and the mission.  I hope you enjoy it!

Player Comments:

“WOW!  What a fantastic mission!  The dialogue and story line could’ve been lifted straight off the tv/movie screen – very trek and really pulled me in” – 5 Stars

“almost made me cry lol but love it anyways :) ” – 5 Stars

“Excellent mission!  I love the story and choices that were offered!” – 4 Stars

Mission: The Needs of the Few

ST-HMXXUBCKU

Faction: Federation

Level: All

Description:  A newly warp-capable species is in the process of applying to join the Federation.  You are tasked with exploring their world and making a recommendation to the Federation Council.

Author notes:  This is my second diplomacy mission.  There is no combat and plenty of reading involved.  In some ways, it is very similar to “The Return to Terra Nova,” as far as mission mechanics go.  However, my goal was to center the mission around a choice, which I was unable to do in “The Return to Terra Nova.”

This mission is also my most issue-oriented story, meant to generate heated debates about relevant social issues of the past, present, and future.  Please give it a try, and let me know what you think.

Also, please let me know if you spot typos.  I’m still polishing the text, and I need help.

Greetings from System L-374!

This week saw the release of the second Star Trek Online (STO) Foundry mission within the “Camelot” series arc: “Dreams of Salvation and Glory.”

AUTHOR: @Tucana
CODE: ST-HADWWEUEG
LEVEL: 41+
LOCATION: Veela System, Celes Sector/Regulus Sector Block
LENGTH: Approx. 30-40 minutes
TAGS: FED
TYPE: Solo play
LINKS: STOwiki.org (Foundry Portal section)

SUMMARY: Following the events of the STO Foundry mission “Camelot Under Siege”, Starfleet Command has ordered your return to System L-374 to assist with the retrieval of the lost Camelot Station fleet museum starships.

This mission is heavy on character dialogue, with instances of space/ground combat, search/rescue operations, and exploration.

As many Foundry developers are prone to discover, their unique style becomes the hallmark of their mission construction. Some are purely action-oriented, others craft a blend of dialogue, puzzle play and interactions. Not every mission fits neatly into a single archetype. This has been a source of frustration for devs within the Foundry ratings system feedback, where players have a fixed idea of what they want to see in a mission, rather than being open to the dev’s style, format and intent. (And despite the dev setting the expectations at the start of the mission, e.g. “heavy dialogue”, “this is a diplomatic mission”, “mostly action”, etc.)

The Camelot series is geared towards storytelling. Players can expect to follow a storyline within tailor-made maps, utilizing original characters, intriguing plot developments, and attention to details.

Additionally, each episode in the “Camelot” series includes hints towards possible future missions, ranging from the running threads about Captain Andros, to Starfleet’s Fifth Fleet, to the prospects of Section 31′s involvement in the player’s activities.

As the mission’s entry at STOwiki.org goes, “Your player begins an investigation which reveals the fate of the museum ship crews — and a discovery which could embolden the Borg into a truly unstoppable threat to the entire galaxy!”

Play “Dreams of Salvation and Glory” to find out for yourself!
