Category: Spotlights

From Star Trek Online:

The Foundry is a special program within Star Trek Online that allows users to make their own episodes, playable by other Captains within STO. To access it, open your Mission Journal, and select “Foundry,” at the top. Every month, we like to spotlight a particularly interesting or unique mission for all of you to experience. This time, we’re spotlighting “Time Will Tell,” by XR-377.

Time Will Tell (ID: ST-HG930DWIE) is a KDF mission that begins when a mysterious anomaly appears in the Kahless Expanse, and takes its captains on a journey through time, space, and a plot that has its tongue firmly planted in cheek. I don’t want to spoil too many of its twists and turns, but be sure to keep a sharp eye out as you play, especially for some of the character names.

Got a mission you think is worthy of being spotlighted in one of our monthly blogs? Submit it to us! After you’ve built it in the editor, there’s an option to submit it for Spotlighting when you export. We hope you enjoy Time Will Tell, and we’ll see you in game, Captains.

Repairs continue on all levels of the starbase, well mostly I am trying to get all the bits to play nice again in this new day, its a bit like the season finale of TNG season 1 when all the cryogenic frozen hewmons were dealing with the 24th century. Anyways, its worth noting this new age also features Foundry Spotlights. Many thanks to STO’s Community Manager Ambassador Kael for going forth and getting these spotlit. The 2 most recent entries are:

“In the Shadow of MIDAS: Part 1” by GreenDragoon and “The Hundredth” by NCC-89471

Congratulations to these guys and all the future authors who shall be spotlit.

It’s our Author Profile show for August. This time, we highlight the work of Drogyn1701. We discuss his mission Under Grey Skies, as well as StarbaseUGC’s six mission series. Our Trek Take 5 discussion focuses on TNG’s The Inner Light. We also announced the winner of our $10,000,000 prize giveaway, and Robert Downey Jr. pays us a surprise visit in the studio(not really). So tune in for all the excitement. You won’t be disappointed. Well, you won’t be very disappointed. I suppose it all depends on what you’re expecting. I’m not a mind reader. Listen anyway. It’s a good episode.

The header says the bulk of it, but as of last evening 6/22/15 (22/6/15 for those in Europe and Stardate 47634.44 for those outside Sol system) all english foundry spotlight missions were unpublished by Cryptic so that authors could make any fixes to them required by the changes to sector space, or general repairs that are required.  The period for this should be 2 weeks and all fixes should be submitted by that time. When you have finished your fixes, notify either LaughingTrendy, Zeroniusrex (or both) and remember to resubmit the mission for spotlighting.

Despite an apparent misstep in the republishing effort on Thursday, It can now be stated that Foundry missions are available again for play in Star Trek Online. The editor remains turned off at this time, as are reviews, but this is the normal state of affairs post season update. With luck we will see their return within the coming week, if not sooner.

New bannerEpisode 7 has April’s Author Profile. RogueEnterprise joins us to talk about his experiences

with Foundry and discuss TOS’s Bread and Circuses. Enjoy

NOTE: For those of you in the US. I hope you filed your 2014 Income Tax. Today is the deadline.

Never say we don’t perform a public service.

Today is kinda a big deal day in the Star Trek Online foundry universe. While most of us are reeling from the all too soon loss of Mr. Leonard Nimoy, it was announced this afternoon that we will be getting a great big update to how the sectors in Star Trek Online work. Now we need that the walls were coming down between worlds, but we hadnt really gotten a look at the shape of this. And now as of the blog released today, we have, and it is glorious. And here it is:

/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/galaxy.png

What does this mean for us? Two things, firstly we are getting a number of CANON PLANETS added and most especially added as doors. What it also means is that they are rearranging the galaxy to move things to a more canonical location. So smirk also posted this: asking that anyone who needs to rearrange the wording on their missions, to get with him so that this can be arranged for when this goes live

There potentially will be a blog post tomorrow (12/2/2014) to go along with this, but I will leave it right here…

Hey everyone, according to CaptainSmirk, all of the Fed spotlights that start on ESD have been unlocked for editing repair. Please help get in touch with the affected authors so they can have their spotlights fixed up with a new ESD starting point and then re-spotlit.

His thread is here: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1125601

The affected missions are:

  • The Mayns of Balnar Moon by Alimac30
  • Alpha Flight by RemairTamec
  • ~SFEF~ Repairing Utopia Planitia by Bruckner
  • The Infinitesimal Frontier by Dixonium
  • One Too Many by XR-377

IOR

If you haven’t noticed, the “Investigate Officer Reports” has reappeared in our journals.

This mission is NOT a daily. It has a cooldown timer of 30 minutes, meaning it has virtually no cooldown if you’re playing a Foundry mission that has a story.

I tested and recorded my results. For playing a 30-45 minute mission called “Adrift,” I received the following regular plus IOR rewards that totaled:

Almost 6000 XP (plus XP earned while playing the mission)
2497 dilithium
1984 skill points
About 70,000 ECs, from drops discarded (It was mostly a ground mission, so the ECs were light).

For playing a spotlight, Sovereign77x’s “Forget Me Not,” I received:

3599 dilithium
6000 XP
21,800 ECs
plus skill points

Will these numbers finally entice players? If so, we’ll have to help them find what is really out there. Cheers.

Other Foundry news: In a new interview with Massively, our new EP had this to say about the Foundry:

At this time, Foundry improvements are being tracked as part of the “fix and improve” strategy. We have a list of highly requested changes and are working to get some of them into each update. I don’t foresee any major new features for Foundry in the coming months, however.

BranFlakes clarified in a thread:

Geko is scheduled to sit down with a Foundry Podcast this weekend to chat about plans for the Foundry in terms of features, etc. — he should have the most up-to-date info.

As an aside, “coming months” in development terms typically means the next 2-3 months. As you all know, development of features, even the porting of existing features, takes time and would be beyond the scope of “the coming months”. Wait to hear what Geko has to say before you get too worried.

Cheers,

Brandon =/\=

Stay tuned for an important Foundry-related interview.
