Hello my fellow Foundry Authors/Founders,

We’re looking for experienced and knowledgeable authors to come and join us, to share their knowledge.

To take part, you’ll need to be free on Saturday the 6th of April, 12 Noon PDT/ 7PM GMT for 3 hours, as well as have access to a Skype Account and have an internet upload speed of 0.4mbps or better (you can test yours here http://www.speedtest.net/).

If you’re interested in being one of our Teachers, please sign up using this link

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via Twitter @cerberusfilms, or through the StarbaseUGC Chatroom.

Thank you, and I can’t wait to get to work with you all

This contest has been in the works for a very long time, and I’m proud to say that we finally have a set of winners. Because there were only three contestants, I will announce my picks according to first, second, and third place.

First place prize of an original Leonard Nimoy autograph:

“Original Life” by SBCouto
Faction: Federation

Review: Although I didn’t necessarily think this mission had the best story, it had the best TOS atmosphere. That the author used the TOS sets may have helped, but I really tried not see that as an advantage over other authors, who simply don’t have comparable TOS sets for their TOS-themed missions. What really captured my immersion were the little touches that made the mission just as “campy” and fun as the original series. From a waitress on the bridge to a close combat fight in a brig (which of course distracted the guards), the little touches made all of the difference. The humor and the style felt perfect.  Some reviews call it “fanboyish.” Well, I’m certainly a fanboy, so every moment of this mission was wonderful. I also really enjoyed the appearance of two very classic villains.

The mechanics of the plot were a little confusing, but I loved that the author took risks with the player’s own back-story. I can’t really say more without giving too much away. It was creative and original.

So, congrats to SBCouto! If you’re a TOS fan, play this mission.

Second place prize of a $25 Amazon gift card:

“Troiya of Elas” by HippieJohn
Faction: Fed

Review: Out of all of the missions, this one felt most like a TOS sequel. I’d really recommend watching the episode, “Elain of Troyius,” before playing, because it really had tons of details connecting the dialogues to events seen in the show. I won’t say much more about the twists and the turns of the plot. The story was wonderful. Really, it was the best story of the bunch, in my opinion. But, the lack of set customization, especially on the ground map, really hurt this contest entry. The story had so much detail while the sets had very little. But the bottom line is: this is an author to watch. Without a contest deadline, he could make some of the most amazing Foundry missions to date.

Everyone please support and encourage this new author by playing his mission and helping him get better and better with the Foundry.

Third place (no prize):

“Ghosts of the Polmar Ree” by Bazag
Faction: Fed

Review: This was a very painful choice for third. If you’ve played any of Bazag’s missions, you know that his stuff is top-notch. This mission was no exception. Out of all of the contest entries, it was the best designed and the most detailed, with a wonderful puzzle for the win. This is 5-star mission, and it deserves to be high in the ranks for all to play. Seriously, this mission is one of Bazag’s most talented works, and he should be incredibly proud of it. Unfortunately, in light of this specific contest, it just didn’t feel very TOS, because it’s more of a sequel to Alimac30’s famous “City,” albeit with a nice twist that relates the villain to something unexplained in an original series episode. It’s an interesting twist on the villain that could be further explored. But, in the end, I felt almost no immersion in the lore or settings of TOS. But, if you’re looking for a superb mission in the STO universe, play this NOW.

Ok, so those are my picks. I hope that they seem fair. Everyone please congratulate the winners. Play these missions.

SBCouto and HippieJohn, please send me a pm at the STO forums, and we’ll go from there regarding the prizes.

Thanks to all for participating.

Gates of Sto’Vo’Kor’s Temporal Foundry Contest

Foundry authors, prepare to dive into Star Trek Online’s Foundry as Gates of Sto’Vo’Kor is pleased to announce our latest Foundry Contest …. featuring Time itself.

Star trek shows have given us a glimpse into what the Federation and Starfleet might be like as a temporal faction … but what of the Klingon faction.

Both the Korath and Krenn class temporal ships have shown us that the KDF as a faction DO dip their hands into the flow of time … but how?

Those entering the contest need to design a foundry mission that features the KDF temporal faction in some way.  How you do that is completely up to you, however it must be for the KDF faction and have a run time of no more than 30 to 45 minutes to be considered.

The top five winners will have their choice of one of five prize packages, with first place getting first choice:

— Requisition for a Temporal Science Ship

— Requisition for a Temporal Shuttle

— Requisition for an assortment of four different cross faction consoles.

— Klingon Mirror Battle Cruiser

— Klingon Mirror Qin Raptor

Contest entries must be submitted before midnight, on December 1st (PST).

To enter, simply post the name of the mission, your @handle, level requirements, and a brief description on this thread on the STO Forums. Please visit the Gates of Sto’vo’kor website for the official audio announcement.

The winning entry will also be featured in a future episode of Gates of Sto’Vo’Kor during our next season.

Thank you.

This week’s spotlighted mission is “One Too Many” by XR-377.

Faction: Federation
Level Requirement: 41+
Mission Summary: The daughter of “Reg” Barclay is working on Earth Spacedock tracking down a system’s bug in the Station’s Network. But, as can be expected, she has a problem one too many…

”One Too Many” was also the mission that won Foundry Challenge #3.

Title: Relics
@handle: Kirkfat
Faction: Fed
Level: Any
Style: Diplomacy, with some action

Description: The Klingon Empire is occupying a planet for unknown reasons. You are sent to investigate. What you discover will alter your perception of the cosmos, its past, and its present.

This is an entry for STO’s foundry challenge #4.

STO’s Foundry Challenge #4 is underway, now in the voting stage.  Please participate in the voting after playing all of these missions:  Visit this thread for voting rules and procedures.

Ancient Dreams” by SBCouto (Fed Any)

The Answer” by Raptorwalker (Fed 16+)

“Atlas” by rickysmith1 (Fed 31+)

The Darkness between the Stars” by Marhawkman (Fed 31+)

The Long Sleep” by Pendra80 (Fed 16+)

Mudd’s Treasure” by Q400 (Fed 31+)

Relics” by Kirkfat (Fed Any)

Terrors of the Past” by Kahn (KDF 41+)

The Twilight of the Gods” by Diogene0

The Zypex Revelation” by Klintobean (Fed 16+)

We have 3 weeks to play all of these missions and vote for a winner by sending an ingame mail to BranFlakes.  Good luck to the contestants.

Due to all the issues and downtime lately, I’m extending the deadline for this contest.  You still have 4 weeks if you’d like to participate.

Grand Prize:

Leonard Nimoy autograph.

Runner up prize: A $25 Amazon Gift Card

Deadlines and stuff: Since I’m giving away my autograph, I will be the one and only judge. You will have until September 3oth to submit your mission for consideration. I will then announce a winner and runner-up once I’ve played them all.

To submit your mission, add a comment to the thread with the info on how I can find it.

Rules: I want to see the best TOS-themed mission, such as a 2409 sequel to an original series episode, or a time travel mission, similar to DS9’s anniversary episode.

Restrictions: Since we don’t have many TOS assets, I’m going to say that you can’t use anything Preserver-related. That way, you’re all going to have a hard time with sets and assets, and I won’t have to play through 20 Preserver missions.  However, if the TOS map is available to you by the end of the contest, then you use it.

Otherwise, there are no real restrictions, except I probably won’t give the autograph away to a mission that violates the Eula. So, no Kirks or Spocks. And even though it’s fuzzy, I’ll say no McCoy.

Winners must be willing to give me an address to send the prize. If you live outside of the continental US, you’ll probably have to make a paypal donation to the site that equals the cost of shipping.

Note: I didn’t witness Nimoy signing this. I bought it at a comic book store in the late 90s. It comes with a certificate of authenticity from that comic book store.

This episode of Primetime features two interviews. The first is with our own Havraha and the second is with Zeronius Rex from Cryptic.

Here are updates for STO’s official Foundry challenge #1: Conundrum on Risa.  There are 12 missions to play, and we have until March 14th to vote for a winner.  Please participate in this thread.  Here is the info from BranFlakes:

Calling all Foundry players and reviewers!

From today until next Wednesday, March 14th, at 10AM PST, voting is open for Foundry Challenge #1!

The following is a list of submitted missions to be reviewed — if you are going to play them and vote, I ask that you please give everyone a fair chance and play through each mission. They should all be around 30 minutes, but should be no longer than 45 minutes. If you can play ~2 missions a day, you will be able to play them all.

Once you have played through them, please send me an in-game/ forum mail with the mission you feel should win this month’s challenge. Unless you play through all of the missions pretty quickly, I should not be getting votes until late this week/ early next week.

You may only vote once and may not vote for your own mission. Rallying people from your fleet/ friend group to vote for your mission is discouraged and should be apparent from the votes that come in — encourage them to play through all of the missions and really choose the one they feel best told the story. This is all for fun, and while there is a small prize to be awarded, I know all of us are ethical, honest people

So, without future ado, here is the list of entrants (along with the background story).

From the official post:

Hello and welcome to the first Foundry Challenge!  These challenges will be posted every 4 weeks, which includes 3 weeks to make your mission, and 1 week for the community to play through all of the missions and cast one [1] official vote for a winner. At the end of the 1 week of playthrough and voting, a winner, based on a simple majority of votes, will be announced and awarded 500 STO Promo Points for the C-Store.

Today we start the four-week run of the first Foundry Challenge: Conundrum on Risa

While on shore leave on Risa, the murder of a Stahlonian diplomat takes place on the island you are visiting. This diplomat was recently involved in talks with the Federation and KDF to join forces in combating the Borg advancement in the Alpha Quadrant. The loss of this diplomat is a tradgedy, and will cause a step back in negotiations, as the Stahlonian government was already worried about getting involved.

As the most senior ranking officer on the island at the time of incident, you have been tasked with investigating the events that lead up to the murder, including finding the culprit. As you begin questioning the locals, you stumble across clues that seem to follow some sort of pattern. As the investigation continues, you begin to realize there seems to be a riddle of sorts involved.

You will have from today, Wednesday February 15th, until Wednesday March 7th to make your Foundry mission and reply to this thread with its information in this format:
