Monolith
ST-HSJS4VADD

Two leaders of a Starfleet Academy funded archeological expedition have uncovered evidence of a previously undiscovered alien civilization on a Reunificationist colony world, but their inability to cooperate sends you on a mission of diplomacy. However, do more mysteries lie just below the surface?

This was technically the second Foundry mission I ever built, while the Foundry was still in beta on Tribble. I believe Filbones even reviewed the original version for StarbaseUGC here — http://starbaseugc.com/index.php/ugc-reviews/filbones-reviews-monolith-by-havraha/

Unfortunately the Foundry was wiped on Tribble before I could port this mention in its entirity, so what remained was a handful of maps, costumes, and dilaogue boxes. I decided this was for the best — I would remake Monolith to be better than it ever was on Tribble, but it would take the Foundry to acquire some improvements … one of which was triggers, and another was only recently added — Tholian NPC Contacts.

While the original version featured a Vulcan and Tellarite archaeologist along with Romulan and Breen forces fighting over Preserver technology, I wanted to better explain the crystalline structures and place the mission more in line with “modern” story elements of Star Trek Online such as the Romulan Republic. To do this, I changed Saeril to be a Reunificationist colony world, and also replaced the Breen mob group with a different species. This also helped me explore two different A Plot and B plot ideas.

I hope they strike a cord with you and that you like the characters. Please play the mission and leave a review. :)

You dig Podcast UGC? I do. I’m in it. Do you dig cat girls in bikinis? Of course you do. I saw that inflatable under your bed.

Why don’t you check out podcastugc.com for the latest episode of it? This is short because I just spent the last 3 freakin hours editing the show and I don’t want to type much. I do it for your amusement. Worked like a dog. Or a cat.

A shaved green cat. In a bikini. Rawr.

It’s the episode after Temporal Ambassador, and all of us here are eager to share our thoughts on how it turned out! But that’s not all that’s gone on. Bob has inexplicably returned, despite my complete and utter confusion on the topic. I complain about the Foundry Spotlight (and break the show by trying to be a smart ass), and Terry and I go to war over what kind of Foundry missions should be eligible for high rewards and the wrapper. And Foundry Reviews Return! Give it a listen.

It’s at moments like these that you may wonder whether I pre-plan crazy-ass things to say so we can have a crazy-ass title for the show. The answer is obviously no. I just pre-plan crazy-ass things to say so I can appear crazy-ass. An obvious title is a happy accident!

Something went amok with my microphone and cables while recording the show and it was recorded extremely softly, so I tried to fix it the best I could in post but if I sound weird, that’s why. Just because the winter event is over doesn’t mean all winter events are done for. My area is getting some Thunder Snow! The winter event is ending, there are foundry spotlight bugs, Denise Crosby exists, stealth Foundry costume editor updates, and my wild 180 reversal on Esperanto are all covered in this week’s episode!

It’s also the return of TerilynnS to Podcast UGC, so despite my sore throat I nonetheless fought my way to the show to do it the old fashioned way. Apparently that includes epic left-wing vs. right-wing argument as designed by Agent 009 on the role of female clothing in Star Trek Online, and what place men have being able to wear it. In Starfleet? Probably none. Terilynn feels it is progressive and good to empower people to wear whatever clothing they want. I feel like if you’re wearing a cropped jacket, you’re wearing clothing designed for a girl, like a purse or high heels. Expecting me to take you seriously, you can’t expect any more than I can expect to walk around with underwear on my head and be treated normally. Who wins the argument? Listen and decide.

Though the winner is Terilynn because she’s the girl and the girls always win the arguments. Duh.

What? We already had a Christmas podcast? What’s that? I said I wouldn’t be doing a Christmas podcast last week?

Well I guess I did say that, didn’t I. But as the snowy eves approached and the days grew colder, I realized the only thing that could really warm this old Scrooge’s heart was a little Tuesday night Podcast UGC. I also took it as an opportunity to revel in a little stupidity: a podcast without point or purpose, not broadcasting on Trek Radio so I could control when we went to break and when we didn’t.

Is Bob here? No. Terry? No. Deyvid? Well he would have been if I wasn’t an idiot. But no, the only other podcaster with me tonight isn’t a podcaster at all. Not yet, at least. He’s YOU!

Well, ok, he’s not you. But he’s similar to you. He’s Rikturscale, a frequent emailer to the Podcast, someone who I have communicated with on many a night over Skype, and he’s now graduated from commentator to commentatee. … commentatey? Commen … huh, maybe that’s not a word.

In any case, with it being Christmas night and most sane people out enjoying their family (and most insane people taking my word for the fact that there wouldn’t be a show tonight), our live justin stream reached only one person. Too small to call an audience, we proclaimed him the evening’s Christmas Audient, for whom we would entertain. Oh, and then there’s you. Huh. Imagine that.

Being that next Tuesday is in fact Christmas and you’d be crazy to think we’d do a show on Christmas night, one would expect that this week’s show is filled with merry Christmas cheer.

However, if you know Podcast UGC, you’re probably smarter than that and probably could see the fact that this one ISN’T, telegraphed from a mile away.

Was it the subject header that gave it away, or the fact that I make Scrooge look like Good Guy Greg? And the only person that makes me look nice is Grumpy Cat?

In any case, I tried to correct that a little bit by shoving some holiday MUSICAL cheer into our show where it decidedly wasn’t. You’re welcome! I almost named this show “All The Things That Aren’t”, because that’s kind of what we cover, pretty much. But then I decided that “Aren’t” is one of those words that totally sounds weird on its own and if you say it over and over again, it starts to lose meaning.

Aren’t. Aren’t? Aren’t. It’s like a dog barking or something.

A lot of what we cover this show includes an interview from Star Trek Online Executive Producer Daniel Stahl which was conducted by another podcast called Primetime UGC (no relation). Enjoy! Also at the end of this show, I go on a 1-Hour long HavRage about another MMO called “The Secret World”, and more specifically how everyone told me it was the bestest thing ever and in fact it is NOT the bestest thing ever. And Cryptic Studios games do a LOT of things better than it does. I expound on this, and Bob throws his two cents in there as well.

Listen, or DIIIEEEEEE I mean have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Or something. Hannukah. Hannu .. how do you spell that? Hanukkah? Hanukkah. Hanukkah. Sounds like a cat barfing.

It’s a winter wonderland! It’s middle of December and it’s finally getting cold where I live. I hate cold. I liked a warm winter. I wonder if this is a sign that I should live in a tropical environment. Somewhere really expensive. Somewhere I couldn’t afford on my own. Perhaps, if I were to promote this endeavor as a means to get rid of me once and for all, I will get mass donations from everyone at Cryptic and most of my occasional listeners. We’ll call it the “Save the Havs Foundation”.

Anyways, this week we tackle the winter wonderland according to Q, Hav makes a fool out of himself by assuming something completely against common knowledge, the reward structure of the Winter Wonderland is called into question (and more emphasis is put on that whole beta testing thing), Hav and Bob touch on “On Screen” and the secret plot of Cryptic studios to destroy all podcasts and dissent, and PVP is apparently a thing. Somewhere. To somebody.

Also, there’s a Rommie Tribble, and Cumberbatches’ character revealed confuses everyone, and Hav tells you why you are a tool if you actually care. So give it a listen!

I’m sick, Bob isn’t, and Terry is gone. There truly is no God.

This week on the show, we tackle the lastest Foundry updates, Foundry testing and the problems with it, dilithium dropping like a rock, the idea of a Foundry reputation system, and Bob has a genius idea for non-combat gameplay that Cryptic needs to steal!

Although, I’m completely clueless to how many listeners we even have, so outside of plugging my latest story I’m writing, I ask listeners who never have written in, to write in for a change!

Occasionally, so many things start happening in Star Trek Online that I don’t know where to begin. That’s kind of like tonight. For instance, one cool change is that I’m sitting on one of those inflatable donut pillows. For my butt.

No, I’m not going to explain that.

Other times, the changes are so massive that we can’t adequately cover it. Three hosts aren’t enough. We need to bring in the big guns.

We try to make heads and tails of the dilithium changes this evening thanks to a massive list compiled by Bob, before everything’s changed again which just kind of confuses me into a “omgwtfbbq mini-rage” that lasts for about 5 seconds, and then we cover whether spotlighting Foundry missions is actually worth it to Foundry authors. Among other things.

We actually covered a lot and I can’t really recall it all, so just listen, ok? … geez.

Well that’s an interesting title. What’s it have to do with the show? You’ll have to listen to it to find out!

Although when has the title had much of anything to do with the show?

Please excuse the clicking and popping throughout the first half of the show: I was rendering a video and apparently my hard drive is not that skilled at multitasking. It DOES clean up eventually though. What goes on this week? We’ve cut down the hosts back to 3, and spend a majority of our time dissecting some of the new missions on Tribble (Into the Hive and Mine Trap) along with exploring what we see out of the reputation system. Hav also mico-rages about the Gateway having the EXACT problem I warned about, damnit. And the embassy system is discussed.
