Its a holiday extravaganza! Crazy Chalaskie stops in to join in the fun, We interview STO EP Dan Stahl, we have a review of Slaves and Seduction by our own Kirkfat, as well as his Foundry Essentials. ENJOY!

The Foundry editor is still offline, but the missions published before the season started are back available….but there are issues. Numerous reports are being posted in the forums about NPCs vanishing and breaking the mission storyboards in many cases. Presently players are pointing the finger at npcs despawning after a player moves outside a certain range of them and not reappearing if needed later. This issue will continue to cause problems for many missions. I can personally state that both of my missions currently published are broken and unable to be completed at present because of this.

As many of you are already aware of, season 7 is upon us, a publish of the code is already on Tribble with builds being updated with new features as time progresses and sometimes bug fixes. There are many things that have been added to Tribble ( you can view them here and here).

  • A new NPC Group, Mugatos, this means we might finally be able to have hand to hand melee with reskinning.
  • Users in Foundry previews are told they cannot mail items, sell dilithium or any other action that might be interpreted as an exploit.
  • Queuing for PvP and PvE events are disabled and messages provided to indicate this.
  • Patrols added to the Foundry, this allows authors to have NPCs to wander the map on predetermined path. Note that this is a continual action and cannot be ‘switched’ on or off directly.
  • NPC’s can now have their states changed from Visible to Hidden. The effectively means we can now hide NPCs on a map after an objective has been achieved or some other event. Note however this does not include the ability to set an animation on their disappearance so they just face out.
  • UI changes have been made, some buttons are more streamlined, text has been changed to clarify some options and the map selection UI now shows a preview of the map itself.
  • The ability to export and import costumes has been added. At this moment this option appears to be only account-wide, so it is possible to share costumes between projects, but not between other players. This also only includes costumes and not maps.

Overall there aren’t a large number of changes as there have been in previous season releases. With that said, this does not mean there aren’t more opportunities for things to go spectacularly wrong with the editor and publisher.  For some of us, long experience has led us to dread the coming of a season release. Starting with the infamy of season 4 through season 6 there have been many times when the editor has been offline and missions have been trapped in broken states leading to many taking a massive rating hit. This is the time we need to make an effort to insure this does not happen this time.

We as authors need to take time on Tribble to go forth and create missions, even if they are simple versions of projects we have done before. Regardless of how simple they are, we need to make sure that all the mechanics work as intended, that nothing slips through the cracks. I very much want to be editing and publishing missions within the day of season 7  going live. If we can make sure that everything is as it should be, perhaps my dream can be fulfilled and we don’t wait weeks for the editor to come back to us.

There is an update going out for Tribble. IT makes a number of changes, but as always, we are talk’n about the Foundry. Here are the highlights.

*Edit* There are also reports circulating that object limits got updated. The numbers originally stated are here, but initial reports are the object count is significantly higher, or including items counted under different budgets.

Foundry:
The Foundry editor has been re-opened!
There are some projects that will need to be edited before they can be republished, but most of them will auto-republish just fine.

  • Multi-select has been added!
    • Left-click now defaults to multi-select.
    • This is changeable in the Map menu.
    • Middle-click and space+left-click pan the map.
  • There are additional behaviors available for contacts and NPC groups.
    • Have fun!
  • The controls in the costume editor have been updated.
  • Image previews for ground objects and contacts are now in 3D.
    • It’s a known issue that some of the image previews are cropped incorrectly for contacts.
  • Mission flow has been changed.
    • Rather than having map transitions created automatically, an author needs to manually place them.
    • All objectives must be placed on a map.
    • Maps cannot be placed inside Complete Alls.
    • There is a new objective type: Dialog with Object.
  • Added the ability to have no interact time for interact objectives.
  • The name displayed in the reticle for interact objects is now labeled with the actual name specified for that object in the map editor.
    • Boy that was hard to explain.
  • The preview image for some of the alien artifacts no longer includes a bounding cylinder.
  • The backdrop Template “Interior Sky Starfleet 01″ now works with the Utopia Planitia map.
  • Updated the Utopia Planitia Foundry Map template.
    • Removed the glass doors.
    • Replaced the abominable starship with a single Nova class.
    • Added the Utopia Planitia backdrop template to the Foundry.
  • Dialog popups can no longer be set to “Objective Complete”.
    • This unintended feature never actually functioned as expected.
    • They can use “Component Complete” instead”.

Known Issues:

  • Foundry: Not specifying a door for the first map transition is an error, but doesn’t result in an unfinished task.
  • Foundry: The camera position for contacts is incorrect.
  • There are portions of floor missing in Drozana and Treasure Trading Station.

The rest of the patchnotes can be found here.
