This is why I’ve been avoiding titles. I’m terrible coming up with them. But this week we break in a new host as Deyvid takes the Trek Radio reigns! Oh, I also explain why there was no podcast last week, and we talk about Foundry bugs that persist, cool Foundry videos of Neverwinter, I give the requirements for the Mirror Universe Ship Contest, and I announce the Convention Code contest, which will have its question posted in the comment section of this post! And I even compare other MMOs to Star Trek Online with surprising results! Give it a listen!

Hi all,

while Stormshade is busy cleaning the forums from anything related to some new leaked starships, let’s see if that Streisand effect still works.

As a bonus, the new mic is there! But don’t expect any miracles.

Regards,
Rachel

Due to all the issues and downtime lately, I’m extending the deadline for this contest.  You still have 4 weeks if you’d like to participate.

Grand Prize:

Leonard Nimoy autograph.

Runner up prize: A $25 Amazon Gift Card

Deadlines and stuff: Since I’m giving away my autograph, I will be the one and only judge. You will have until September 3oth to submit your mission for consideration. I will then announce a winner and runner-up once I’ve played them all.

To submit your mission, add a comment to the thread with the info on how I can find it.

Rules: I want to see the best TOS-themed mission, such as a 2409 sequel to an original series episode, or a time travel mission, similar to DS9′s anniversary episode.

Restrictions: Since we don’t have many TOS assets, I’m going to say that you can’t use anything Preserver-related. That way, you’re all going to have a hard time with sets and assets, and I won’t have to play through 20 Preserver missions.  However, if the TOS map is available to you by the end of the contest, then you use it.

Otherwise, there are no real restrictions, except I probably won’t give the autograph away to a mission that violates the Eula. So, no Kirks or Spocks. And even though it’s fuzzy, I’ll say no McCoy.

Winners must be willing to give me an address to send the prize. If you live outside of the continental US, you’ll probably have to make a paypal donation to the site that equals the cost of shipping.

Note: I didn’t witness Nimoy signing this. I bought it at a comic book store in the late 90s. It comes with a certificate of authenticity from that comic book store.

This week, Bob is suspiciously missing, but Deyvid, Maverick, and Risa join me and Terilynn to recap Trek Radio’s adventures in Star Trek Las Vegas! There’s something odd happening to Starfleet in our game.  Thanks to a combination of Cryptic’s gameplay, it’s devotion to giving players vast customization options, the desire to offer (often sell) a variety of ships from every Trek era, and the fact that our characters lead away missions in place of our Number Ones, among other details, has given me a sense that Starfleet has gone a bit odd.  This is definitely the most speculative of all my observations.  Like with constellations, I may be connecting the dots here, but I’m adding a lot of lines to create a picture of my own devising.

But I think it’s an interesting picture.  And I think it could serve as a background for Foundry stories or at least for characters within them.

Hi,

as requested, here comes a largely unedited episode of the podcast. Tell me if that’s easier on your ears.

Regards,

Rachel

So looking through today’s Ask Cryptic, and there was one Foundry related question, and guess what? It was mine!

Q: (drogyn1701) Would you ever consider allowing Foundry authors to submit KDF missions to become “official content” with XP rewards in order to flesh out the KDF side and create 1-51 PvE level progression like the one Cryptic created for the Federation.

Dstahl: This is one of the goals of developing our Foundry Spotlight feature. In addition to being able to flag specific missions for rewards, we also will be looking into the ability to “copy and freeze” specific Foundry missions so we can do exactly what you are describing. We will maintain the credits/tips for the author, while giving us a safe copy that isn’t subject to the author revising it further.

Noice! Not a new idea as many of you have pointed out, but a good one. So get workin’ on that Cryptic!

In this episode Bazag and Galactrix play through “Helna of Troy” by Kirkfat, and are joined live by Kirkfat.

If you missed the live version of the show, you can watch it (now in HD!) on YouTube above.

Hi all,

sort of a short show this week, not much to cover. Enjoy!
