Getting a fair shake at STO Foundry mission recognition - Part 2

Some Star Trek Online (STO) Foundry authors have invested considerable time and effort into crafting their missions. And like most Foundry offerings, they’ve seen their work passed on, or lost, in the ever-growing mission listings where a low rating (and low mission play) can be the kiss of death, regardless of its quality. In Part Two of our series, we talk with two Foundry authors about their works. You’ll begin to see insights into their original missions — and how the community has (or hasn’t) embraced their concepts… yet.

In this Foundry Essentials, Cerberusfilms explains how to create the popular effect
of warping to another system within a single map.

I am going to begin posting the Foundry Essentials segments from PrimetimeUGC on the site to be viewed as stand alone tutorials.
I hope they can be of some use. This was the first, concentrating on map transitions geared toward beginners.

Every Tuesday, PUG TV with Jaedrian brings you his first impressions and walkthroughs of Star Trek Online (STO) Foundry missions. As he writes, you can enjoy “feedback and opinions from a casual gamer point of view as I check the F2P MMO Market. I’ll throw in some other games as well to keep it interesting.”

Jaedrian’s latest review: PUG TV takes on “Dreams of Salvation and Glory” by Tucana. Prior reviews can be found within Jaedrian’s site, including his recent review for Tucana’s prior mission, “Camelot Under Siege.”

Brandon Felczer, better known as PWE_BranFlakes on the forums and community manager for Star Trek Online, dropped in this episode to give us some breaking news on The Foundry, and it’s seriously awesome! We can’t wait for you to hear! At the same time we kind of feel bad because the rest of the episode is certainly not as happy pitched as the beginning: indeed, we had some scathing critiques of both the state of bugs within Foundry missions in the game and the lackluster design decisions that are haunting us. I’ll be honest here.

We like Obisek. We do not like timed events. If force Obisek into a Timed Event we hate, we rage. No if ands or buts about it.

And although there isn’t any mission reviews tonight (we save that for next week), we decide to mix it up by asking YOU to play and review The Mayns of Balnar Moon for next week, and send us the review you left the author to our email address! Let’s see what you think!

Voting now open for Cryptic's Foundry Challenge #2 (until May 9, 2012)

From today until Wednesday, May 9th, at 10AM PDT, voting is open for Foundry Challenge #2!

Since late March, Foundry authors have been storyboarding, developing, and designing Foundry missions for our most recent challenge, Temporal Loop. More information about the challenge can be found here.

The following is a list of submitted missions to be reviewed — if you are going to play them and vote, we ask that you please give everyone a fair chance and play through each mission. They should all be around 30 minutes of gameplay, but should take no longer than 45 minutes to complete. If you can play and complete one (1) mission a day, you will be able to play them all before the voting period ends.

According to Cryptic Studios, STO user accounts compromised - April 25, 2012

Perfect World/Cryptic’s Community Manager, Brandon “PWE_BranFlakes” Felczer, has issued a message on the official Star Trek Online (STO) Forums about identity management issues.

Put simply, user account information was comprised. Players have been unable to log into their accounts today.

This writer (Tucana) for StarbaseUGC.com applauds the response by Cryptic, but calls upon Perfect World’s leadership/executive management to address this matter directly with all STO players. This is a very serious matter which many players only discovered after a.) they could not access their STO accounts today; and b.) they had to figure out where to find out more about this issue, e.g. customer support channels, the official STO Forums, and Cryptic Studios’s website.

The problem has also affected Champions Online players, too.

As of this writing, this writer (and STO/Champion Online player!) has NOT received any official, direct communications from Perfect World/Cryptic, notifying about the identity theft and account compromises. Like other players, this writer had to take steps to change account information to regain access/prevent further problems.

Space…The Final Frontier… For many, these words were the beginning of a journey of imagination, introspection and adventure. When it was announced that Star Trek was going to be coming to the world as a Massively Multiplayer Online game, it was only natural it would attract the interest of fans around the world. Within a year of the games launch, the developers added a feature that gives ANY player of the game a voice rarely available in most online games – the ability to make their own content.

Hey gang, it is I, your humble Castmodean and that was the preamble to a post that has now gone live over on the Startrekonline.com website. Please go and check it out and give me your feedback here. Click the link to go to the STO page.

Getting a fair shake with Star Trek Online (STO) Foundry mission recognition

StarbaseUGC.com recognizes all Star Trek Online (STO) Foundry authors want a fair chance at achieving success. Various established authors within the STO community have benefited from being highlighted in podcasts, broadcasts, and receiving repeat business from their rankings within STO’s in-game Ratings tool.

We aren’t saying the attention isn’t deserved.

We know it can be frustrating to break through that glass ceiling, to achieve the recognition for a Foundry mission that an author is proud of. Yet many missions receive no community attention, no accolades, and few gameplays (and fewer ratings).
