We got this piece of an update today.  It’s not much, but it’s interesting.

From h2orat:

There is an update of functions and content for the Foundry sloted to Holodeck sometime late spring / early summer and while I don’t know exactly what is on that hit list I can say there are large improvements over how things work in the Neverwinter version (like setting actual waypoints for patrols, setting up sniper/ambush functions, etc.)

Special Edition of Foundry Files.  Enjoy!

Jupiter Broadcasting

Please watch episode 2 of Primetime UGC.  It’s full of cool Foundry info, an author interview, a mission review, and even a quick tutorial for new authors.

With the specs of the flag ships release to us, all we can hope is that the skins will be usable in foundry to be used by authors. But lets focus on the missions that are playable now and that have been release last week.

Truth be told, I never liked a lot of things about Star Trek. A lot of it started in TNG, with this implication that somehow everyone was taken care of by the almighty powers that be in the Federation. This isn’t how it works in real life. People get in tough spots, jams, and they depend on themselves, luck, or charity. True charity, from people who are willing to take a chance on them. That’s what we at Starbase UGC are asking of others in a special case.

Adam Ihle won a contest a few months back. As an artist, he submitted a design for the next Enterprise to Cryptic Studios, and it was selected, making him the designer of the Enterprise-F. As envious as anyone would be of him, his life didn’t change. He still needed to find work, he still needed to move his girlfriend so they could be together. What did change his life more than any starship drawing could was the birth of his twin children. Fees related to flying to be at their birth and caring for them has left Adam broke with bills to pay and services still yet to buy so he can quit his job and move back to Ohio to be a father to his family.

No Federation is going to chip in here. No magical government entity is going to make sure everything turns out right for Adam. But perhaps you can take a chance and make a real difference in someone’s life?

If a charitable donation seems out of reach for you … think of it as a commission. For a certain amount donated, Adam is willing to do personalized pieces of art. Think about that for the second. A personalized peice of art from the designer of the latest Starship Enterprise! Is that worth 5 dollars? 25? … 500? A lot of authors and readers of Starbase UGC and players of Star Trek Online have already chipped in, but at 1,280 dollars left to his goal, Adam still has a long way to go before he can get out of this bind. So anything you can do to help, will help!

Go to http://www.microgiving.com/profile/Ihlecreations to read about Adam’s story, see what level of donation will get you what kind of commission, and PLEASE, chip in to help the designer of the Enterprise-F get home and be a father to a family.

HI,

Sorry for the poor audio quality, but my comp has trouble capturing and running DAZ Studio at the same time.  I know it’s distracting, but hopefully not too distracting.

I’m honestly not sure if Cryptic is capable of implementing something like this, but it seems like a good idea for Neverwinter and STO.

One additional feature request to complement it: the ability to change the skin color of the creature’s head and body, so goblins are green, etc.

Anyways, check it out.  Would you like to see something like this in the Foundry?

Hi all,

Since the Foundry might see some love for Season 6, perhaps this site could help by creating a few master lists of things that need attention, like bugs, etc.

Project 1:  Assets that “don’t make sense.”

There are not bugs per say, but they are things that seem dumb.  This includes assets that require counterparts that don’t exist.

Example: There is a platform for a Captain’s chair, but no Captain’s chair in the Foundry.  That doesn’t make sense, does it?  Well, maybe if you’re making a mission to find the stolen chair, and never actually find one.

Or, these could include things that seem pointless or difficult to use.

So, here goes.  I’ll start a list.  Please add to it with every example that you can think of.  Hopefully, if the devs devote some attention to this stuff, then they could use our master list.

1. (as mentioned) We have a platform for a captain’s chair but no captains’ chairs.

2.  The rock platform meant to fit in the middle of other rock platforms doesn’t look right.

3.  We have like 9 federation door walls (only 1 opens) and only like 3 fed-style walls.  Plus, no floors or ceilings.

4. We have some rock-like walls, but no way to fit them together to make tunnels. Putting them together results in texture overlap.   Also, no cave floors or ceilings, apart from cave maps, where the rock walls don’t fit to the ceiling.

5.  Tons of ceiling props.  No ceilings.

6.  Sickbay props.  No Sickbays.

7.  Tons of crates.  Interiors are already full of crates that can’t be deleted, moved, or erased.

8.  We have brigs and jails with forcefields in place already.  We should have separate forcefield doors, so that brigs can be opened and closed.

9.  The only usable, horizontal forcefield is “broken.”

10.  Our ESD map is the old ESD.

OK, I’m sure that we can grow this list very quickly, if we all work together to create it.  Please leave a comment with your examples of assets that “don’t make sense,” and I’ll add it to the list.

Thanks!

The conclusion to the Unholy Alliances Triology. I have developed a teaser trailer to help encourage people to play the mission. It’s for Federation players level 41+.

Synopsis: We have obtained the algorithm to unlock the Claw database we recovered. It’s still being analyzed. However, we do know that the Claw is being supplied with designs for advanced holographic technology, while a holographic virus is granting artificial sentience to holograms all over the quadrant.

It originates from an mining facility in the Otha VIII planetary system.  Go to the Otha system in Eta Eridani to investigate and stop the Claw.

Odium Prophecy

Trouble is brewing with the Borg near the Klingon border. Embark on a five-part mystery to uncover the plot and thwart the evil plans of the enemy. Puzzles, choices, everything you love about a great STO community authored mystory mission.

Length:
Less than one hour.
Includes a bit of reading, so be prepared for that.

Part two will be released in about a week. Thank you in advance for your honest rating.

Foundry authors, how do you feel about STO's Foundry?

MISSION REVIEW : The Floods at Home. Part 1

AUTHOR : Woody_Valley

MISSION STAGE : FINAL DRAFT – Holodeck

PROJECTID:(Pt1)ST-HN9CS9IDR(Pt2)ST-HMVKDJ2ZS

ALLEGIANCE : Starfleet

LEVEL : Any Level

DESCRIPTION  : From the 23rd of December 2010 to 16 of January 2011,  the State of Queensland, Australia saw some of the worst flooding in its history. 60% of the state was flooded from this Natural Disaster.

This Foundry mission was based on some of the events that happened, but with Starfleet playing the role of the Australian Defence Force. For a better understanding of what happened during that time, I have linked a Youtube 7 part series on the floods.

Faction: Federation

Level Requirement: 16+

Description: A mission to recover a Jem’Hadar ship goes awry when the Romulans take an unseemly interest in claiming the vessel.

Is it simply a matter of protecting their soverign territory, or are the Romulans guided by more sinister motives?

This is my entry into the “PodcastUGC Jem’Hadar Ship Contest”. Enjoy!

This week, CaptPFDennis is back on the show to take us through his mission, “Respect For Your Elders”, and Duke-of-Rock steps in to host while Bazag is away. Filbones also joins us as a guest.

All,
I need some help figuring out how to make videos out of my foundry mission. I’ve spent quite some time on it and would like to make an ingame video to show it off, once complete.

Any help would be welcomed.

Reuster

In reply to Reuster, there are a couple of options for making videos to advertise your foundry mission. One of the more straightforward ways would be to just capture the screen while you are playing your mission using something like FRAPS (www.fraps.com).

If you want to get more fancy, like you’ve seen in some of the trailers here on Starbase UGC, then another option is to use the game’s built in demo record tool to create fancy camera shots and flybys.

Here are a series of videos from Soriedem that can help you get started:

Hello everyone,

this is a shameless plug to make you all aware of a project I’ve been working on and off for the last three months. It’s the successor to the “One Year Anniversary Tribute” video that generated  a lot of views last year. So I decided to go big for this year. The UGC-related news is, that the foundry will be featured prominently in the five-minute clip. Enjoy the teaser. See you on February 2nd!

Should all Star Trek Online videos, be uploaded to the same place? So that the viewer has a better experience, and more views are gained for all? Read my ideas, have your say and vote here!
