Reports are coming in from a number of Foundry Authors that republished missions are broken. This behaviour seems to have started after the most recent patch.

The only thing I edited on this particular map was text… added a period and removed the word “the” from one of the pop ups. This is a very simple map – the ready room. It has 4 added items total – a desk console, a wall console, a doorway and an npc contact. When you beam in now, both consoles appear at the incorrect Y coordinates (higher) and the mission becomes unable to proceed after talking to the npc contact (a pop up dialog should follow his dialog).

I’ve seen this now with 2 different ppl that were publishing missions today. when you use your overhead map, its black, no map, icons, waypoints etc. pop up dialogs won’t work, nor reach markers, anything that requires you to head some where.

I”m having the same problems that others in this thread are having, but for me, it’s not limited to republished missions.

All my previously working and published Foundry missions are bugged too, and this all occurred after the patch for the arrival of Q. However, the missions work in the Foundry editor, which doesn’t help identify the problem.

None of my published missions progress beyond a certain point, no expected dialogue pop-up appears at a reach marker, none of the missions can be completed, and also, all the maps on Map View when press M are black or nearly black with an occasional beacon or my away team or ship on the map.

If in space, I get an intermittent pop-up as though I’m at the very top of the map … you know, that reddish box that says there’s nothing to view with choices: Warp or Dismiss.

Best advice is to leave your missions well alone until we hear anything from Cryptic.

UPDATE: A brief Tweet from CrypticEQAH reveals a fix is imminent:

Anyone who had troubles republishing Foundry missions, we’ll have a fix for it in the next patch, same time as when the Breen replay starts.

When will you run out of Foundry slots?

(=| Please visit this thread to get your KDF mission added to the list |=)

The Klingon Experience Project is dedicated to gathering together unique Klingon content: whether KDF-exclusive missions by the developers or ones created by the fans.

I’ve the updated status report for Week Two: we’re up to 11 Foundry missions!

(=| click here to see the missions contributed by players like you! |=)

I’ve tried to include authors’ missions in sequential order and am happy to announce the third mission in every column will be non-English. This allows for the German, French, Spanish, and other communities to get their content added!

That said, keep building Klingon missions and try to reply in either the official thread, this post, or toss me a message in-game @darrenkitlor.

What to include:

    +Mission Name
    +Author
    +Level Range (All, 16+, 31+, etc.)

Mission name: The Spirits of Ramok Nor

Author: alimac30

Project ID: ST-HI8UI4BLS

Faction: Federation

Level: Any level

Duration: Approx. 1 hour

Description:

Spirits are haunting an old Cardassian-built medical facility on Bajor. The terrified patients and staff fear the apparitions are the tormented souls of Bajorans tortured and killed at the facility during the Occupation. With the pain of Cardassian atrocities still raw after 50 years, Kai Kira has asked Starfleet to investigate…

Notes:

  • This is NOT a Devidian mission
  • Intended to be single-player
  • Takes around an hour
  • Much more of an investigation than a shoot-’em-up

Quotes from feedback received so far:

“Best mission I have played yet. The environments alone are just outstanding… 6 stars!” — @Captain_Revo

“Umm, wow! That played out just like an episode of Star Trek. Absolutely outstanding mission! Unbelievably good job with environments – the attention to detail is amazing. Easily one of the best missions in The Foundry. A must play!!” — @Captain.Hunter

“I’m not just saying this to be nice, I honestly think it’s the best user created mission I’ve played… Loved the story, the maps, the pace, everything… the most fun I’ve had in STO for ages.” — @Halish

In addition to promoting your missions in blog posts and on Wiki UGC, you can add your mission banners to appear at the top or bottom of pages and posts by sending us your banners.

The criteria for the banners:

  • Max 600 wide by 150 high, jpg format please.  Keep image sizes reasonable (a few hundred kb at most)
  • We reserve the right to reject banners that are very poor quality.

Other considerations:

While it is completely optional and not necessary, you might consider donating $1 to support the site.  Authors will not get special treatment for doing so.  This doesn’t affect whether or not we show your banner.  We only ask you to consider this, because we’ve replaced all of the adsense paying ads with non-paying foundry ads that benefit the community of authors and players.  So, it would be appreciated if a few of you out there decided to donate a dollar or two.

Or, you could add a sbugc sig to your STO forums account.

Again, both of these things are optional.

Send your banners to admin@starbaseugc.com.

Thanks!

Once again, in an episode where we had no clue what to talk about, we managed to find two and a half hours of awesome things to say!

Additionally, my ability to dodge tornadoes is becoming the stuff of legend, world renowned for my agility. Perhaps I will produce a tutorial video on how to do that as well, and save lives.

I’d also like to add that we tried something new with this podcast in an effort to improve our voices’ audio quality: we should be more close to FM Radio quality rather than AM Radio quality, so we hope you notice the new fidelity and appreciate the time and effort we put into improving our podcast for you.

I’d additionally like to thank all who joined me for our epic 3 and a half hour long after-show! It was amazingly fun, and I certainly enjoyed it.

Warning- This article was written at 03:15 and my brain is dead so my apologies for the poor writing/If nothing makes sense :-) I’ll edit it when I’m more awake :-)

Hi there fellow foundry types

Cerberusfilms here again and I’m going to talk a little bit about Trailers again.

Some of you know that I’m a Film-Maker and I regularly work on short films, both my own and many others around Scotland. I would like to extend an invitation to foundry authors to contact me via the StarbaseUGC chatroom, in-game chat or in-game mail to pick my brains about their trailers.

I’ve also been considering starting to review trailers for some time and listening to the podcast tonight has firmed it up in my mind, I’m gonna give it a go. So if anyone would like me to review a particular trailer, just comment below, send me a PM in-game or hit me up in the chatroom.
I plan to begin with Admiralmurphy’s, Etherghost’s and NemesisChiken’s

And finally after May I will have a lot of free time and so I am considering taking requests to make trailers for people, again let me know.

Hope this was helpful, until next time

The story comes to an end as the race comes to a dramatic conclusion. Will the crew choose to first save a Romulan colony from a gruesome fate or go after the person responsible? The mission takes place on Chiron in the Alpha Centauri sector, crossing back to the Romulan side of the border. The crew must race against time to identify the freighters that carry the device at the coordinates revealed from the previous mission.

    NOTES

This is perhaps the most technically challenging mission out of the four. I tried to put two major branching sets and a minor one. And as every author knows branching is very tricky in the Foundry. In fact I feel the mission would get seriously broken unless the player follows the explicit instructions in the dialogue windows. Which leads me to that point: it’s very hard without logic tree mechanics in the Foundry to establish dialogue on each branch of the mission, especially if, say, an NPC is no longer around because a player took a particular branch over the other.

In any case I hope it’s a good ending to the series.

    Commentary Highlights:

“I wish all user-made missions were on this level.” - ISS Voyager

“A wonderful balance of dialog and combat, an interesting new alien, and a TOS reference to boot!” - Ens. Adam

“This mission is one of the reasons the Foundry will bring life to STO.” - Issoldier

***Note: Any and all feedback is welcome. This mission has already been greatly improved by community feedback and further reviews will only benefit it further. Thank you in advance!***

Since the days of beta one thing which has bothered me about STO is the way that our bridge officers all too often order us, the captain, around.

At best, they give us “suggestions” which we have no alternative but to follow and, at worst, they talk down to us as though indulging a four year-old.  At times it feels as though we’re being condescendingly allowed to push buttons and steer the ship not because of our skill and experience, but because the people around us are trying to make us feel like we’re contributing something while they do all the heavy decision making.  It’s like a parent letting their child push the button to close the garage door and telling them, “What a good job you did!”

On the surface this appears to be a result of the way Star Trek Online presents missions and dialog to us, the player.  The bridge officers fill an essential role in providing exposition and explanation to things which, due to limitations in the game’s engine, cannot be presented in another way.

But looking beyond the surface I’ve come to realize that it’s not because of STO’s limitations that this obnoxious captain-bridge officer interaction is required.  Still working within the framework STO and the Foundry give us, it’s possible to step beyond ‘the Cryptic method’ and add another dimension to our storytelling.

You know what the chain of command is? It’s the chain I go get and beat you with until you understand who’s in ruttin’ command here.”  - Jayne Cobb, ‘Firefly’

    Inner, Outer, Another and Away

    Review

Star Trek only rarely delves into the creepy or surreal, but the few times it has have made for very memorable episodes. So please understand that when I say that Inner, Outer, Another and Away is literally a nightmare, I mean it in the best way possible.

Edit: Details have changed.  A donation is not necessary.  See the page up top called “Advertise”

    Hi everyone,

I wanted to throw this idea out there to get some feedback.  Please be completely honest about it, because I have mixed feelings about the idea.

The idea: Right now, we’re using google adsense to monetize the site.  This means that much of what appears as ads are not ugc related and advertises crappy games like the BSG one.  What if, instead of using google adsense, I set up a completely optional monthly donation system, in which those of you who decide to donate $1/month to the site through paypal could have your mission banners appear at the top of every page with an alternating banner script that would cycle through the mission banners of those authors who make monthly donations.

This would not mean that anyone has to pay to advertise a mission on the blog, wiki, etc.  It would only involve that ad spot at the top of the page that usually has a BSG ad.  Instead of some ad that isn’t really much value to you or the Foundry community, we could have mission ads that benefit the players and especially the authors who choose to donate $1/month to support the site.  Everyone else could still post ads to the blog, etc.

The biggest issue with this would be a diminishing effect for those who donate.  With an alternating banner script, the more banners and donations, the less frequently a specific banner would show when competing with other banners.

Is this a good idea or a terrible idea?  Please express your thoughts.  Thanks!
